KUCHING: The current leaders must prioritise safeguarding important values such as racial harmony, religious tolerance, and unity among the people In order for Sarawak to continue to thrive.
Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian said that the current cohort of leaders, under the guidance of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg, would persevere in their pursuit of an inclusive, environmentally sustainable, and prosperous Sarawak.
“Furthermore, we require the support of both present and future generations on this matter,” he said during the filming of the National Month and Jalur Gemilang 2023 Launch at Batu Kawah Riverbank Park here today (23 June).
He was present to officiate at the symbolic flag-raising ceremony at the Riverbank Park vicinity in conjunction with Sarawak Day, National Day, and the upcoming Malaysia Day.
Meanwhile, the principal assistant director of the Communication and Community Development Services Division, Department of Information Malaysia (JaPen) Sarawak, Roszilawati Nor Aziz said the flag hoisting programme was a collaboration between JaPen and the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) which aimed to instill a sense of patriotism and revive the atmosphere of independence.
“It is imperative to embody the essence of patriotism rather than relegating it to mere lip service. This entails acknowledging and honouring the valiant efforts of our national heroes in the fight for independence and the safeguarding of national sovereignty against external threats.
“Out of a sense of responsibility, JaPen took the initiative to expand strategic cooperation with other agencies such as the MPP to foster and rekindle a love for the country by working together to install the Jalur Gemilang and the Sarawak flag around the Batu Kawah Riverbank Park area,” she said.
She explained that the Riverbank Park area was chosen because it is one of the locations where the public frequented for recreation.
“When people see the ambience of the area filled with flags, maybe they will be able to feel the presence of the aura of independence in themselves,” she added.
Roszilawati hoped that every strata of society, regardless of age or race, could together fly the flag that is the pride of the country in homes, business premises, offices, vehicles or anywhere as a sign of love for the country regardless of the time.
