MIRI: Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) entrepreneurs are urged to expand their businesses to the international market.

In making the call, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan pointed out that SMEs were the backbone of the country’s economy.

“As such, for the business industry, they need to be export oriented in order to grow their businesses.

“To enter the global market, they need to take care of the quality and packaging of their products while also meeting the compliances that are required by the international market.

“This is possible because with our vast land, we have many resources that can be marketed internationally,” he said.

Awang Tengah was officiating at the state level Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Week (PMKS) 2023 at Coco Cabana here yesterday (June 23).

Adding on, he stated that entrepreneurs also needed to improve their skills and capabilities to meet the global market standards.

He said a business could not go far if it did not improve its skills and explore the bigger markets.

“We already have facilities and initiatives given by the government. Therefore, I call on the entrepreneurs to further increase their capacity by adopting the technology. Use the digital and Ecommerce platforms that we have.

“The adoption will make it easier for us to further expand our products. Time has changed and this is the way now,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, touching on the programme here, Awang Tengah expressed his hopes that the entrepreneurs would be able to expand their networking throughout the programme.

“It is all up to us (entrepreneurs) and our efforts to expand our business further. We now have an open economy. Seize the chance and grow your business,” he advised.

During the event, Awang Tengah witnessed the exchange of two Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) between Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC) and Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera, and between Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC) and TikTok Pte. Ltd.

The aim of the first MOU is to create a working relation towards the successful implementation of both SDEC and Yayasan Peneraju programmes and for the growth of the people of Sarawak in digital skills, development of digitally savvy entrepreneurs and Industry 4.0 ready businesses.

The second MOU aims to explore the potential opportunities that the innovative shopertainment platform can offer for Sarawakian sellers under the Sarawak Digital Mall initiative.

This initiative will provide training by TikTok Certified trainers, shipping vouchers, a dedicated microsite and many more campaigns to grow the numbers of Ecommerce sellers in Sarawak.
