KUCHING: Several locations can be used as venues for entertainment concerts and programmes by foreign artistes interested in performing in the state.
Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the more common venues for these events included the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) and the Sarawak Cultural Village.
“If you want a bigger place, you can use the State Stadium, either closed or open, which can accommodate up to 30,000 spectators.
“If there are foreign artistes who want to perform here, of course, we are happy. For now, these are the only locations available,” he said.
He said this in response to a reporter’s question regarding the preparation of a venue for international artistes interested in performing in the state.
Abdul Karim was speaking at a press conference on the Tok!Buskers Challenge 2023 at Hotel Samudera yesterday (June 26).
He also revealed that the state had set certain conditions for entertainers who wanted to perform in Sarawak.
He explained that the entertainers needed to ensure that they would wear their clothes properly and there would be no abusive or foul languages.
In another development, when asked by a reporter about a possibility of Yolo Malaysia X Hammersonic coming to Kuching, he replied that they (organisers of the event) might have approached his ministry for permission to hold a concert at the Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV).
“Nevertheless, I myself have not seen the invitation yet,” he said.
Adding on, the minister said various programmes were organised almost every week in the state,
“There are many entertainment programmes until the end of this year. There are also sports, cultural events, food festivals and so on,” he said.
