KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Final Year Student Inspiration Initiative (CIPTA) is the best platform to display the creativity of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) students in producing innovative works of art.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said university students can provide new insights in the formulation of such innovative creations.

“The songs composed by students show great potential to compete at famous international music festivals.

“The combination of traditional instruments with contemporary elements gives an interesting and alluring characteristic, showing extraordinary creativity in the exploration of the art of music,” he said at the inaugural CIPTA on Tuesday.

Abdullah emphasised the importance of collaboration and inspiring each other in the art world.

He also said that the exchange of knowledge and collaboration between university students and Sarawak Art School students will influence each other, enrich cultural understanding and broaden perspectives in the art of Sarawak music.

“As an example to students and the community, the ethnic concept of fusion applied in the song means combining traditional elements with modern elements, creating a fresh and interesting listening experience.

“It represents the spirit of cultural integration that preserves Sarawak’s heritage while opening up space for new elements,” he said.

He also acknowledged that collaboration between the young generation with different artistic backgrounds will create a great synergy and produce more achievements.

He hoped university students and art school students can work together in art projects involving traditional instruments and contemporary elements, encouraging creativity and strengthening Sarawak’s art.
