MIRI: Some 180 participants from nine schools across Miri Division took part in the Inter Miri Division Primary Schools Choral Speaking Competition on Saturday (July 1).

The competition, sponsored by Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOP), showcased the company’s commitment to promoting education and supporting youth in the state.

General Manager of Miling at SOP, William Wong, expressed the company’s honor in sponsoring the competition, highlighting their belief in investing in the future of the community by empowering the youth.

He emphasized that the competition not only encourages students to develop their speaking abilities but also promotes unity and cultural appreciation.

“The Inter Miri Division Primary Schools Choral Speaking Competition is an annual event aimed at fostering teamwork, confidence, and linguistic skills among primary school students in the Miri Division.

“This year’s competition brought together talented participants from various primary schools, showcasing their abilities in the captivating art of choral speaking,” he said in a statement on Saturday (July 1).

Wong mentioned that the competition featured impressive performances by talented students, and judges evaluated their presentations, providing valuable feedback to encourage their growth and development.

The Best Conductor Award was presented to Victor Then Ming Zhe of SJKC Chung Hua Miri, while the Best Script Award went to SJKC Chung Hua Miri.

SJKC Chung Hua Miri emerged as the first-place winner, followed by SK Senadin, SJKC Chung Hua Pujut, SK Agama, and SK Jalan Bintang.

“We would like to congratulate all the participating schools and students for their exceptional performances. Rest assured, we remain committed to supporting educational initiatives that empower young minds, foster cultural diversity, and contribute to the overall development of society,” he added.
