SERIAN: The Sarawak government provides 68 per cent of the state budget for rural development.
Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Martin Ben said the budget is specifically for the implementation of agricultural roads and rural roads.
Therefore, he urged the residents to seize the opportunity from the implementation of the road by developing more areas to carry out agricultural activities.
“Although various development progress has been achieved in the Kedup area, members of the village security and development committee (JKKK) and villagers should also play a role in thinking about how to generate more income, especially in agricultural activities, whether done individually or in groups through more modern methods,” he said.
He said this during the presentation of Certificates of Appointment for JKKK and the Gawai 2023 Celebration at Kampung Paon Sungai Rimu, on Friday.
The Kedup assemblyman added that he expected the village leadership and residents to play a role in ensuring that social problems especially drug abuse among teenagers and residents, are identified and reported to the authorities.
During the same programme, Martin announced an allocation of RM10,000 to the JKKK and RM10,000 to the Kampung Paon Sungai Rimu Women’s Bureau.
