BAU: The Bidayuh Cultural Centre is expected to be completed in the next two years, with its architectural design inspired by the Bidayuh’s Baruk circular structure.

Deputy Minister of Transport (Riverine and Marine) Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said the centre began its construction works two weeks ago and, once completed, it will facilitate a 1,000-capacity crowd.

“The single-floor building is over one acre and will be able to host future weddings, activities, and seminars.

“Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has also approved the allocation (approximately RM9 million) for the building under the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA),” he said when met by reporters during his visit to the site yesterday (July 7).

He hoped the construction process would run smoothly to cater for the growing population of Bau and serve as a landmark for the Bidayuh community in Bau.

“We have the Dewan Suarah, but it has become slightly small, and it is not so friendly for persons with disabilities, and with the centre being a single floor, it would also be accessible for them,” he said.

Besides that, he said the Bidayuh Cultural Centre adds to several ongoing projects happening in the area, such as the Bau Sports Arena and the Bau Gold Mining Museum and Park.
