KU C H I N G : A salesman lost RM17,000.37 after he was put in fear that he might lose all money in his bank account by scammers. The victim, 32, from Miri received a phone call from 03-23830296 on Tuesday who informed him that RM6,000 from his credit card was used. The victim however said he did not have any credit card and later was asked to contact the Bank Negara to clarify the issue.
According to him, when he made a phone call to a number given, he was told to transfer all his cash to a given bank account or he will lose all his money. Scared that he might lose his money, the victim went to Maybank cash deposit machine (CDM) at Boulevard Shopping Mall and transferred his money to an account by the name of Siow Chia Chee.
He was told later he was cheated. Meanwhile in Miri, a 37-yearold admin clerk had received calls from 082-428567 who claimed to be from Maybank Kuching regarding her credit card issue. However, she refused to entertain the phone calls. A medical officer in Bintulu also refused to entertain phone calls from an unknown number who claimed to be from MACC.
