Man fined RM2,000 for punching brother-in-law

KUCHING: A man was left RM2,000 poorer after the Magistrate’s Court fined him for punching his brother-in-law while under the influence of alcohol.

Akmal Fazrin Sahari, 28, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 326A of the Penal Code before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi today.

The court was told Akmal had deliberately punched his 59-year-old brother-in-law in the face at a house in Jalan Siol Kandis at around 7 pm on July 10.

The offender, who was drunk, suddenly went berserk and punched the victim in the face.

The victim suffered a bruise on the left eye and was then taken to the hospital for further treatment.

A medical report confirmed that he suffered facial tissue injuries and a police report was lodged by the victim which subsequently led to Akmal’s arrest on the same day at around 8.50 pm.

ASP Rogayah Rosli prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
