Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said among the ordinances which are currently being drafted have to do with hydrogen and energy security.

“We are blessed with a stable government, probably that’s one of the most important ingredients towards sustainability. Once we are stable, we can fully focus on strategies and develop Sarawak’s green economy policy.

“Green cities is one of the strategies, which will be launched by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg by the end of the year, then we will have a lot of laws and new ordinances which will be drafted and tabled in the next DUN sitting in November.

“This would allow Sarawak to go into carbon trading, hydrogen industry and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF),” he said this in his speech before witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Hornbill Networks Consortium Sdn Bhd on yesterday (July 17) here.

He added that the laws and ordinances which will be introduced would allow Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) to buy extra electricity from the community and the industry.

“That is the way forward, so that we can save our hydroelectricity from degrading and we can make use of extra electricity for other industries,” he said.
