Boat capsizes, one missing; five swim to safety

MIRI: A boat carrying six people capsized in Sungai Long Kawa, Ulu Tutoh, here leaving one passenger missing.

The other five passengers managed to swim to safety.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said the incident occurred around 5.30 pm yesterday (July 17).

Bomba, however, only received an emergency call three hours later (8.30 pm) from a caller identified Cikgu Bibianti from Kampung Ba Selulong.

Early this morning (July 18), a team of firemen was deployed to the scene via a logging road which took about six hours from Marudi.

Initial reports said the boat was heading towards Kampung Ba Selulong from Long Bedian.

At the time of writing this news, the missing victim, a female senior citizen, is yet to be found.
