Kuching to host 23rd TV awards

KUCHING: Kuching will  host  the 23rd Asian Television Awards (ATA) for three days starting from January 11 next year.

The event, at  Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), is organised by Asian Television Awards Sdn Bhd and fully supported by Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Advisor to the ATA, Sim Kiang Chiok said the award would be televised to 22 countries which would broadcast it live to two billion viewers.

Karim held a coordination meeting on ATA late last month with  the organiser and  relevant government departments and agencies.

He said  the event  would give “Visit Sarawak Year” a boost in the Asian market.

Meanwhile, Sim added that Sarawak would play host to over 300 international delegates in the film and entertainment industry including the ‘creme de la creme’ of film producers, directors, performers, host talents, judges, nominees, celebrities and key sponsors from the participating countries in Asia.

Celebrities will also be given an opportunity to learn about Sarawak and tour it.

There  will be 42 categories of awards to recognise the best performance, programming and production excellence of the Asian television industry,

During the coordination meeting last month,  host and most popular award nominees were announced. They are as follows

• Hosts: Teh Choy Wan, Adrian Jalaludin, Mark Zambrano and Teh May Wan.

• Nominees for best entertainment presenter & host: Ray Macdonald, Hu Gua, Varavuth Jentanakul and Panisara Arayaskul

• Nominees for best sports presenter or commentator: Carlo Pamintuan, Dominique Boulet and Michael Schiavello

  Nominees for best news presenter or anchor: Rajdeep Sardesai, Kishore Ajwani and Zakka Jacob

• Nominees for best current affairs presenter: Andini Effendi, Aviani Malik, Liu Xiu and Eugenio Abunda.

• Nominees for best actor  in supporting role: Jirayu Tantrakul, Louis Scott, Rohit Purohit, Wu Nien Hsuan and Hurbert Wu

• Nominees for best actor in leading role: Nadech Kugimiya, Francis Ng, Chang Hsiao-Chuan, Eason Chen, Laksh Lalwani, Peter Ho, Zhang Han and Louis Hesse

• Nominees for best actress in supporting role: Fu Hsiao Yun, Maneerat Kumoun Shiny, Sinjai Plengpanich, Elaine Yiu, Janie Thienphosuvan, Gigi Wong

• Nominees for best actress in leading role: Kim Nam Joo, Song Ye Jin, Maylada Susri, Joanne Tseng, Sonija Kwok. Maja Salvador and Yang Chin
