MUKAH: The new students of Polytechnic Mukah Sarawak (PMU) have been urged to always abide by the rules and regulations of the college.
In making the call, PMU Student Affairs Department and Student Development head, Associate Cpt. (PA) Hazatta Morshidi, reminded them that they were subject to the rules and regulations as long as they were studying at the school.
“When you abide by the rules and regulation, you would be able to adapt to your new life here, especially as you’re away from your families,” he said in his welcoming speech during the college’s Graduates Inspiration Week recently.
He stressed that they have to be disciplined and willing to change to fit into the new environment which was different from their secondary schools.
Hazatta also wanted them to respect each other and the lecturers as that could also determine their performances.
“Any new thing is a challenge so be prepared for it and be respectful. Avoid getting involved in any unhealthy activity. If you cannot be disciplined in petty or small things, how would you handle bigger things?” he said.
He reiterated that the college has counsellors to deal with students who have psychological and/or other problems.
“Don’t keep to yourself when you have problems because at PMU we have counsellors to address them. If you don’t want to reveal your problems to the counsellors, at least talk to the student close to you. We don’t want the problems to reach a level that could make you depressed,” he said, adding that he wanted them to graduate with flying colours in 2021.
This month’s Intake Inspiration Week was for 284 students and it is expected that more would come especially those to be admitted through walk-in interviews at a later date.
