KUCHING: The Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department issued 38 summonses to road users for exceeding the speed limit in an operation codenamed ‘Ops Utama’ yesterday (July 26).
In a Facebook post, the department said the three-hour operation at Jalan Kuching-Serian was aimed at tackling the persistent issue of speeding on the road.
Throughout the operation, a total of 146 vehicles were inspected – 65 cars, 43 pickup trucks, 21 motorcycles, 12 lorries and five vans lorries.
No stone was left unturned in the police’s efforts to ensure road safety and enforce traffic regulations.
To maintain order and emphasise the importance of responsible driving, the operation resulted in the issuance of 54 summonses of which 38 were specifically for exceeding the speed limit.
Police say speeding remains a serious concern in the country and in the state due to its inherent dangers as it does not only increase the likelihood of accidents but also reduces the driver’s ability to react promptly to unexpected situations.
