Man gets six months’ jail for possessing syabu

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court today sentenced a 26-year-old man to six months in prison for possessing 0.33g of syabu in a house at Batu Kawa here.

Lo Zheng Gang pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi to a charge framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

According to the charges, he was accused of possessing the prohibited substance in a room of a house in Jalan Batu Kawa at around 1 pm last May 17.

If convicted, a fine up to RM100,000 or imprisonment up to five years or both, can be imposed.

Based on the facts of the case, the police raided a house at Jalan Batu Kawa as it was suspected of being involved in drug activities.

Inspections led to the finding of a transparent plastic packet containing crystal substance on a table in the room.

The seized items were taken to the Chemistry Department and the report confirmed that the substance was Methamphetamine drugs weighing 0.33g.
