KUCHING: The upcoming Pesta Benak has received a boost as Simanggang assemblyman Datuk Francis Harden Hollis injected RM50,000 in funds to the committee.

The annual event, scheduled from Sept 29 to Oct 1, attracts both the local community and visitors from outside the region.

Harden, who is also Deputy Minister for Talent Development, expressed delight in providing financial support to the festival’s committee, aiming to ensure the resounding success of this year’s festival.

The decision was announced during the committee meeting, chaired by Sri Aman Division Deputy Resident Elvis Didit. The meeting focused on reviewing sub-committee reports, with leaders presenting activity summaries and estimated expenses.

Aside from the main events, a run is scheduled for Sept 17, with a goal of seeing 1,500 participants. The Sokanjaya Club from the Public Works Department (JKR) of Sri Aman Division has been entrusted with organising the programme.

Alongside the festivities, a development exhibition will also be held, with a particular focus on Bandar Simanggang.
