MIRI: The 2023 Miri Tattoo Festival is expected to bring many benefits to Sarawak’s tourism industry.
Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew said, hosting this event will make Miri a popular destination for tattoo enthusiasts from all over the world, giving a significant boost to the tourism sector including hospitality, restaurant, and other industries.
He said this when launching the 2023 Miri Tattoo Festival at Coco Cabana here today (July 29).
Since its establishment in 2006, the festival has grown significantly, with about 20 tattoo artists coming together under one roof for this year’s event, which takes place from July 28 to 30.
According to Ting, the combination of art, culture, and creativity showcased in this festival enhances Miri’s status as a desirable tourist destination and ensures its appeal for years to come.
Famous tattoo artists attending the festival include Andrea from India, Ararit Tattoo Studio’s Ian Beck from Miri, Bajak Letcu Sipatiti from Mentawai Indonesia, Clip Nevilleson from Sabah/Canada, Durga Tattoo from Indonesia, High Blood Ink from Miri, High Tigh Bamboo Tattoo from Thailand/USA, Lubok Antu Tatuk (Louis Samai), Manang Tatuk, Monkey Studio Kuching (Jeremy Lo), Orang Ulu from Miri, Orangutan Studio from Sabah, Pai from Kuching, Skrang Tattoo Studio Kuching (Boy Skolang), Tipung Puyang from Sabah (Eli), Tribal 12 Tattoo Studio from Sibu, Ukir Anyam Tattoo Studio from Miri, and Uncle Grondong from West Kalimantan Indonesia.
