SIBU: A fire engulfed a wooden house at Kampung Jeriah, Batu 7 ½ Jalan Ulu Oya here yesterday (July 29), leaving a family of eight homeless.

Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 chief Andy Alie said a distress call was received at 3.13pm, prompting the swift deployment of a team from the Sungai Merah station.

“Upon arrival, they found the house already beyond saving, and our firefighters immediately commenced extinguishing works,” said Andy in a press release today (July 30).

All eight residents, including children and the elderly aged from three to 65 years old, were not present at home when the fire broke out.

“The fire was successfully brought under control and fully extinguished around 4.27 pm,” he confirmed.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the losses incurred are still under investigation.

The aftermath of the fire reveals the devastating impact on the wooden house, highlighting the urgent need for continued vigilance in fire safety awareness.
