KUCHING: The construction of the Type 3 Health Clinic in Serian which is expected to be completed by end of the year will be operational in the first quarter of next year.

Deputy Health Minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni said the latest progress of the construction of the health facility is now at 76 per cent.

“With the completion of the health clinic, we are confident that it can reduce overcrowding at Serian Hospital,” he told a press conference after an official work visit to the Siburan Health Clinic here today.

Lukanisman revealed that the Maternal and Child Health Health Clinic will also be operating at the new health clinic in Serian,” he said.

On Type 3 Health Clinic in Siburan, he said it is expected to be completed by October.

“Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin had requested for this project (Type 3 Health Clinic in Serian) since 2018 and it faced slight issues due to lack of workers during the Covid-19 pandemic from 2020 to 2022.

“As such, the project’s contractor has given assurance that the health clinic will be ready and we expect it to be operational by 2024,” he said.

Lukanisman said the presence of the health facility would provide more health access to the patients.

On issues raised regarding the construction of the Type 3 Health Clinic in Siburan, Lukanisman said the contractor was facing problems at the project site for using a pre-approved concept plan that had been approved by the Public Works Department (PWD).

“This is because the electrical element and design of the project uses Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) specifications in Peninsular Malaysia while the specifications required in Sarawak comply with regulations under Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).

“There are a few issues but they can be resolved by PWD and the contractor and I feel that in the future any pre-approved plans designed by PWD will comply with the conditions required in Sarawak,” he said.
