KUCHING: Everyone is invited to join the Sarawak Bomba Run 1.0, a charity run organised by the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba Sarawak) and the Kuching South City Council (MBKS).
Bomba Sarawak director Datuk Khirudin Drahman said the event aims to raise funds for the department’s Sports and Welfare Association, Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah Children’s Home in Kuching, and Datuk Ajibah Abol Children’s Home in Sri Aman.
The charity run, happening on Dec 3, not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also gives back to the community.
“During the event, there will be exhibitions for the public. They can spend time with our personnel and experience what it’s like to be a fireman,” he said during a press conference at the Bomba Sarawak Headquarters here today (Aug 4).
The run has three categories: a 10KM open category for men and women, a 10KM veteran category for men and women, and a 3KM family fun run.
The goal is to have 2,500 participants, so there’s plenty of room for everyone to get involved, he said.
Besides raising funds, the organisers want to educate the community about dealing with floods.
Meanwhile MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng encouraged the public to participate in the charity run as a way to show appreciation for the hard work and sacrifices of the firefighters.
“We all benefit from firefighters, so they deserve respect for their contribution to society. This is the time to support them and also do charities work for the community,” Wee said.
Registration for the charity run starts on Aug 4 and goes on until Oct 31.
The registration fee is RM70 per person, but early birds who register before Sept 30 can enjoy a discounted fee of RM60.
Participants will receive a t-shirt, insurance, medal, running bib, and also have the chance to win exciting prizes.
