KUCHING: Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) Datuk Julaihi Narawi led a delegation to Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) on Thursday.

The delegation, accompanied by representatives from his ministry and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), engaged in discussions with Singapore’s MTI Second Minister of Manpower, Dr. Tan See Leng.

The meeting built upon earlier discussions and aimed to strengthen a mutual agreement while establishing initial steps for the supply or export of electricity from Sarawak to Singapore.

This collaborative effort set a maximum limit of 1,000 megawatts for the electricity supply. The power will be transmitted via an undersea cable spanning approximately 720 kilometers from Tondong, Sarawak, through the waters of the Muri-Midai corridor, and ultimately reaching Singapore.

Datuk Julaihi Narawi shared these insights in a Facebook post, emphasizing the importance of refining this cooperation for the mutual benefit of both regions.

Accompanying Datuk Julaihi Narawi were MUT Deputy Minister Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman Junaidi, MUT Permanent Secretary Jafri Lias, SEB Chief Executive Officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili, SEB Chief Financial Officer Tan Kok Kiong, MTI Permanent Secretary Dr. Beh Swan Gin, and Singapore Energy Market Authority (EMA) Chief Executive Ngian Shih Chun.
