Sports carnival gathers staff from KPJ East Malaysia

KUCHING: The Sports Carnival gathering of KPJ East Malaysia which consists of KPJ Kuching, KPJ Sibu, KPJ Miri and KPJ Sabah was held here recently.

KPJ Kuching, in a press statement yesterday, said the Sports Carnival was organised for the first time from July 21 to 22 with six indoor games, namely carom, dart, table tennis, bowling, badminton and futsal.

“Male and female categories were organised throughout the carnival. It is hosted by KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital involving teams or individuals representing each hospital in the East Malaysia region, which consists of four hospitals namely KPJ Kuching, KPJ Sibu, KPJ Miri and KPJ Sabah,” the statement revealed.

Speaking during the final day of the carnival, Nurhazimah Mahat, the general manager of KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital cum organising chairman of the Sports Carnival expressed that she was ecstatic that the gathering was successfully organised.

She said the main purpose of the regional sport carnival was to promote sportsmanship, camaraderie, and healthy competition among the participating hospitals. It served as a platform for athletes both amateur and professional to showcase their skills and abilities in a festive and competitive environment.

“I am happy to witness another round of our high-spirited Sports Carnival, and it is great to see KPJ Healthcare family engaging in healthy activities with each other.

“With this tournament, it is an opportunity for KPJ East Malaysia regional hospitals to have a cordial engagement among its consultants and staff, and I hope we can continue to organise this sports carnival in the future,” she said.

During the closing ceremony of the Sports Carnival, the KPJ Kuching Rhythm Squad performed a dance presentation while Valentine Jacy of KPJ Kuching serenaded the crowd with a solo singing performance.

“KPJ Sabah took home the Champion trophy for the KPJ East Malaysia Sport Carnival 2023 as the team with the most gold medals collected. KPJ Kuching, KPJ Sibu and KPJ Miri teams clinched the second, third and fourth placing respectively.

“Overall, the KPJ East Malaysia Sport Carnival serves as a significant platform to encourage healthy lifestyles and strengthen the bonds between hospitals within the East Malaysia Region,” the statement added.

The Sports Carnival 2023 celebrates athleticism, cultural diversity, and the spirit of competition, leaving a lasting impact on the participants and the communities involved.
