Iraq has blocked the popular messaging app Telegram due to concerns over national security, as reported by the German news agency (dpa), citing local media sources.
The country’s Communications Ministry explained that the decision to block the app was taken to address issues related to “national security and the protection of citizens’ personal data.”
Authorities in Iraq were unable to obtain cooperation from the company operating the service in order to restrict the dissemination of official and personal data.
