Marudi’s Bomba personnel en route to Long Pilah.

MIRI: A 55-year-old man has been reported missing while his wife survived after their boat capsized in the Baram River in Marudi.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when the couple was returning from their orchard located downstream of Kampung Long Pilah.

In the 6.30pm incident, Lian Ngau from Long Pilah, was feared to have drowned after he fell off the boat.

Prior to the incident, it was reported that the boat crashed into a submerged tree branch.

The wife managed to cling onto the branch while the husband was swept away by strong current.

She was found and rescued by villagers.

According to Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, a team from Marudi was dispatched to the scene which is about a five-hour journey by boat.

As at press time, the search operation was still on.
