King to visit Sarawak next month, take ride along Pan Borneo Highway

KUCHING: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah will visit Sarawak next month, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said.

Fadillah said the King’s itinerary will include a road journey along the Pan Borneo Highway.

He said he was granted an audience by the King Istana Negara on Monday (Aug 7). Fadillah was accompanied by his delegation.

“Thank you to His Majesty for agreeing to see my entourage and I at the Istana Negara.

“The (visit) is to brief His Majesty on the ‘Kembara Borneo Dirgahayu Tuanku’ which involves His Majesty’s road trip along the Pan Borneo Highway in September,” Fadillah said in a Facebook post.

Also present during the audience was Deputy State Secretary Datuk Hii Chang Kee.

Meanwhile, on Feb 13, it was reported that the King expressed his desire to drive along the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah and Sarawak.

He said he was pleased with the progress of the Pan Borneo Highway project across both states, which commenced in 2015 and is expected to be fully completed in 2024.

“It is my dream to drive on the Pan Borneo Highway, for me to get to know my people in the interior of Bumi Kenyalang (Sarawak) and Negeri di Bawah Bayu (Sabah) better.

“A tour programme is being drawn up by Istana Negara in collaboration with the federal government as well as the state governments of Sabah and Sarawak,” the King said in his royal address when opening the second session of the 15th Parliament.
