The state-level Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) convoy continued its route towards Miri after a brief stop at the premises of Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) Wisma Kontena here on Thursday (Aug 10).
Led by Sarawak Information Department (JaPen) deputy director Aziz Abdul Rahman, the convoy’s arrival was greeted by BPHB group chief executive officer Ruslan Abdul Ghani, BPHB chief corporate services officer Maslihah Tioh and other senior officials of the company.
During the stopover, Aziz handed over the Jalur Gemilang flag to Ruslan, which was then raised at the premises. This symbolic gesture was followed by a brief ceremony to bid farewell to the convoy participants as they continued their journey to Miri. The convoy was accompanied by two BPHB Group vehicles.
On the previous night, the convoy participants were treated to dinner by BPHB at a renowned hotel here.
In his speech, Ruslan expressed gratitude for Bintulu Port being chosen as one of the stopover locations, acknowledging BPHB’s selection as the corporate entity for this year’s programme.
He highlighted BPHB’s support, mentioning that the company sponsored around 1,000 T-shirts as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
He further announced that BPHB would be hosting the Bintulu Port Ethics Day programme following the participation in the KMJG. The programme aims to promote ethical behaviour and integrity among the company’s employees.
Activities of the Ethics Day programme included lecture sessions for BPHB staff, exhibitions from government agencies like the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Royal Malaysian Police Narcotics Unit, and the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK). Additionally, the launch of 12 company policies and a pledge session for ‘Say No To Drugs’ were held.
The statewide KMJG commenced from JaPen Sarawak headquarters on Aug 8 and is set to conclude on Aug 15. It covers various corners of the state, reaching Lawas before crossing the border to Sipitang, Sabah, with the aim of spreading the spirit of patriotism throughout the community.
