MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) is going to embark on a mass gotong-royong programme with eatery owners in Morsjaya and open-air markets to tackle the issue of rats in the area.
This was revealed by MCC’s deputy mayor Julaihi Mohamad during a meet-the-people session here yesterday.
During the session, ten complaints were received from members of the public within the area, which included the issue of rats.
“We urged the eatery owners to keep their premises clean as rats bring diseases,” said Julaihi.
He said in order to tackle the issue, the council needs eatery owners’ cooperation in maintaining the cleanliness of their premises.
Julaihi added that their enforcement officers, together with Health Department, have been conducting regular inspections.
“We would start with eatery premises within Morsjaya areas and open-air markets before extending it to other locations,” he said, adding that it would be conducted in stages.
