KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a jobless man to a year in prison for going berserk and threatening to injure his father at their Bako home on June 26.
Hafarizan, 22, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayang to a charge framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
He went berserk, uttered abusive words and made criminal threats to his 59-year-old father at about 3pm that day.
Hafarizan, who is said to have been armed with a kerambit (curved dagger) at the time, is believed to have lost his head after his father refused to fight him.
Furious, he proceeded to throw stones at the windows and slammed the door of the house so hard that it was damaged.
Fearing for his family’s safety, the father lodged a police report which led to his arrest on July 1.
Investigations found that Hafarizan often went berserk to the point of causing fear among his family members.
According to the father, he was involved in drug abuse activities and was reported to the National Anti-Drug Agency (NADA) but no action was taken by the agency.
Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while Hafarizan was not represented by counsel.
On July 4, he was sentenced to one year in prison by the Magistrate’s Court after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code.
