KUCHING: An earnest call is being made for more private companies to step up and support What About Kuching (WAK).
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah also urged organisations like Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) and Kuching South City Council (MBKS) to fully embrace WAK’s vision.
The aim is to turn the city into a lively centre of arts, culture, and exciting activities that everyone involved desires.
Abdul Karim stressed that all government agencies should stand with WAK, offering safe and secure platforms for creative talents to showcase their skills.
“To truly make WAK a consistent part of our tourism calendar and ensure the festival and our creative community thrive, we need more partners to join in financially. This way, the platform can become something we’re all proud of in the future,” he explained.
He also encouraged venue owners to open their spaces to WAK creatives, generously providing platforms for their events.
“Recently, many events have taken place in Kuching. We hope more owners across the city will share their spaces with WAK,” he added.
Abdul Karim said this during the launch of WAK 2023’s Call for Proposals event yesterday (August 15).
He further called upon the media to support WAK’s creative efforts.
“Let’s all come together and wholeheartedly support WAK. Our creative communities should use this month-long platform to showcase their exceptional talents,” he said.
WAK 2023 is a month-long festival, scheduled from October 1 to October 31 this year.
