KUCHING: A Vietnamese woman has been fined RM1,500, with a default sentence of three months in prison, for her role in a prostitution case at a budget hotel in Padungan here last December.
Le Thi Hong, 40, admitted guilt in front of Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi, facing a charge under Section 372B of the Penal Code.
The offence can result in a prison term of up to one year, a fine, or both. The incident took plac at around 7.30pm on Dec 9, 2022.
As per the case’s particulars, law enforcement conducted an ‘Ops Noda’ raid on a hotel suspected of hosting prostitution activities, which resulted in Le’s apprehension. A condom was also seized during the raid.
Upon investigation, it was determined that the convicted woman had indeed been engaged in prostitution at the hotel.
Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin handled the prosecution while the defendant did not have legal representation.
