KUCHING: A man has been fined RM4,500, or eight months in prison, after he admitted to charges of possessing stolen electrical cable and engaging in substance abuse.
Phang Sian Guan, 35, from Siburan pleaded guilty to both charges presented before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.
In the first charge, he was indicted under Section 411 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code, for being in possession of a stolen electric cable found in a house at Kampung Cemerlang around 5.20pm on Aug 12.
For this offence, he was given the option to pay a RM1,500 fine or serve three months in prison if the fine was not paid.
The second charge pertained to Phang’s violation of Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable under Section 15 of the same Act. He was accused of consuming prohibited drugs – amphetamine and methamphetamine.
The act took place at the Kuching Narcotics Crime Investigation Division office around 6pm on Oct 22, 2022.
Magistrate Mason Jaro sentenced him to a fine of RM3,000 or a five-month prison term for the second charge.
Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while Phang did not have legal representation.
