MELAKA: The Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) has issued a notice to all building owners, especially business premises, under its administrative area to fly the Jalur Gemilang, in conjunction with the National Month celebration.
Its mayor, Datuk Shadan Othman, said that, although MBMB does not enforce the instructions to hoist the Jalur Gemilang, which is subject to business licence conditions and can be subject to a compound of RM250, business premises owners are advised to comply with the rules to enliven the National Month celebration.
“MBMB can issue a compound to errant business premises owners, but we only issue notices to them now because we know that some of them are busy running the business that they forget to hoist the Jalur Gemilang.
“We do not want the Jalur Gemilang hoisted due to coercion, but instead it needs to be done with an open heart and the spirit of patriotism as Malaysians,” he told reporters here today.
He said this after the MBMB monthly assembly, and the MBMB-level Fly the Jalur Gemilang programme, officiated by state senior Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin.
Shadan said that based on observations thus far, many business premises buildings around the MBMB area have raised the Jalur Gemilang, and the initiative is also being actively implemented at the MBMB level.
He added that more than 1,000 Jalur Gemilang, of various sizes, were flown along the route, starting at the MBMB Building in Ayer Keroh up to Banda Hilir.
He said apart from that, to enliven the national month celebration, MBMB will also organise Ride Tun Seri Setia, which will tour all over Melaka while carrying the Jalur Gemilang, this Saturday.
“A total of 470 participants will take part in the convoy, starting in Melaka Tengah, which is at MBMB, and moving to Jasin, Alor Gajah, before ending at the Independence Declaration Memorial Square in Banda Hilir.
“The motorcycle convoy will start from 7 am until 6.30 pm, and in the evening we have, among others, the Ride and Run and Santai@BandaHilir, or known as the Belia Berkarya, involving more than 100 youths,” he said. – BERNAMA
