GOF seizes RM310,000 worth of contraband goods in Batu Niah raid

MIRI: The 12th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) has apprehended a man and confiscated duty-not-paid goods valued at over RM310,000 during a raid conducted on yesterday (Aug 16).

The operation, codenamed ‘Ops Taring Alpha 1 Alpha 2’, took place around 11.45am in Batu Niah.

Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu issued a statement explaining that the GOF team conducted the raid on a premises suspected of storing duty-not-paid goods.

Upon inspection, authorities discovered and seized 50 boxes of beer, 11 bottles of liquor, and 1,107 cartons of cigarettes from the location.

“The seized contraband includes 1,200 cans of beer, 11 bottles of whisky, and 198,280 sticks of cigarettes, with an estimated value of approximately RM312,383.64,” said ACP Alexson.

During the operation, the team apprehended a man who was responsible for the premises. The individual was unable to produce any documents from authorities regarding the seized goods.

Both the suspect and the confiscated items were handed over to the Miri Criminal Investigation Division for further investigation and action.

The case is being probed under the Customs Act 1967.
