KUCHING: A local woman was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment in default of a fine of RM3,500 by the Magistrate’s Court for her involvement in drug abuse in June this year.
The 31-year-old Chuo Yee Chien pleaded guilty after the charges were read by an interpreter in front of Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali in court today.
The court also ordered her to be under supervision for two years after serving her sentence.
According to the charges, during her arrest, she tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine at the Kuching Narcotics Crime Investigation Division Office.
Chuo was found to have taken the illicit substances at about 10.05 am last June 25.
As a result, she is charged under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and can be punished under Section 15(1) if convicted.
Based on the facts of the case, a police team arrested her as they believed she was involved in drug abuse during a raid.
She later tested positive for drugs during her arrest.
Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad requested the court to impose a heavy sentence on the accused as a lesson.
