SIBU: The Sarawak government contributed a total of RM1.3 million to four places of worship in the Dudong constituency here yesterday.

The recipients, namely the Salim Da Wang Gong Association received RM1,000,000, and the Methodist Care Centre, Sibu Sikh Temple, and BEM Usahaja each received RM100,000.

The cheques were presented by the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Dudong chairman Teo Boon Siew at a simple ceremony at thee PDP Dudong Service Centre.

Teo in his speech said that the financial aid, given out through the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), is intended for upgrading the buildings of these four places of worship, proof of the state government’s concern and care towards Sarawak’s multiracial communities.

“Every house of worship always receives due attention from the government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,” he said.
