SIBURAN: A driver and his passenger had lucky escaped when their car crashed and burst into flames along Mile 21, Jalan Kuching-Serian, last night (Aug 26).
 
The locals, in their 30s, were said to have only sustained injuries to the head and legs in the 10.25pm accident.
 
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Siburan and Serian stations were despatched to the scene near the SEDC quarry.
 
On arrival, they found that the Perodua Bezza was still on fire, and the extinguishing deed was performed.
 
Before the fire occurred, the victims had been pulled out of their vehicle to safety by passers-by.
 
Initial treatment was provided to the victims as they were both taken to Serian Hospital for further medical attention.
 
Aside from the extinguishing works, the team also performed flushing works to clear the road from oil spills before concluding the operation at 11.50pm.
