MIRI: The recent ‘Bejalai’ programme saw the participation of four kindergartens in Bintulu, igniting cultural exploration and creativity among the young learners.

The kindergartens were Methodist Kindergarten Bintulu, Peryatim Bintulu, Sedidik Martabat Kindergarten Bintulu, and Pimpin Kindergarten Bintulu.

This collaborative initiative was spearheaded by the Sarawak State Library (Pustaka Miri) in partnership with the Bintulu Development Authority (DBA), targeting children aged four to 12 years in kindergartens and primary schools.

A highlight was the presence of Seung Ah Kim, a distinguished storyteller from South Korea, who shared captivating narratives with the youngsters. Seung’s incorporation of traditional Korean attire during her storytelling sessions added an extra layer of fascination, providing the children with a glimpse into a different cultural realm.

Beyond storytelling, the programme encompassed a spectrum of activities, including arts and crafts sessions organised by Pustaka, as well as interactive engagements facilitated by DBA.

The core objectives were to expose children to the enchantment of storytelling, ignite a passion for reading, bolster self-assurance, and cultivate effective public speaking skills.

Additionally, the initiative sought to introduce the tools essential for compelling storytelling sessions and encourage library membership registration among the young participants.

The organisers envision that this initiative will help children recognise the significance of continual exploration, learning, and the joy of sharing their experiences with others.
