KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Simunjan Festival is set to make its return on Sept 17 to 24th. It was last held in 2019.
According to Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris, the eight-day festival is themed ‘Keharmonian Dalam Kemeriahan’ with the slogan #juhnyengokMunjan.
“Various activities are being lined up for the festival and we are targeting around 100,000 visitors.
“The highlight of the festival is the Simunjan Regatta, set to take place along the Batang Sadong river featuring 10 categories and offering a total cash prize of RM93,600,” he told a press conference at Samarahan Resident Office, yesterday (Aug 29).
Other activities to be held as part of the festival include Bike gathering, e-Sports championship, Drum and ‘Nopeng’ competition.
Awla said these events are expected to attract participants from neighbouring countries such as Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, and Thailand.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan is expected to officiate at the opening of the festival and the pre-launch of Simunjan Kitchen on Sept 17.
Meanwhile, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is scheduled to officiate at the closing ceremony on Sept 24, during which he will flag off of the Bidar 30 paddlers category to compete for the Raja Sungai Pesta Simunjan title.
In the evening, a concert featuring artists such as Azlan & The Typewriter, Ricky Andrewson and many more will entertain visitors to the event.
