MIRI: Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian believes the city can become a renowned food haven, covering traditional street grub to trendy international bites, via its food carnival event.
“This carnival provides an opportunity for all 105 vendors to promote their products to the crowds during 14 days of the event,” he said the opening of Miri Food Carnival 2023 at Miri City Fan on Tuesday night.
“Indeed Miri is a place offers all sorts of local food and different cultures,” said Sim, who is Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, in his speech delivered by his deputy Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil.
He commended all participating vendors for complying with the city council directive for no styrofoam usage during the whole carnival.
“You are a pioneer in no plastics in packaging food … and moving forward to protect our valuable environment,” he said.
Meanwhile, Miri Mayor Adam Yii disclosed that the council is obliged to put across its message of Go Green for the Living Environment through the holding of this Miri Food Carnval 2023.
“There will be no use of styrofoam food containers, no one-time usage of plastic bags, and, we also encourage not to use plastic straws. Therefore, we would be very grateful if everyone supports such practices,” he said.
Miri Food Carnival 2023 actually started on Aug 25 and will go on until Sept 7.
