KUCHING: The heart-wrenching story of Nur Rabiatul Adawiyah Darus, a 12-year-old girl born with cerebral palsy, has caught the attention of Hope Place Kuching, a dedicated NGO committed to assisting those in need.
Rabiatul’s life has been marked by a series of challenges, and her family is grappling with financial difficulties.
Rabiatul resides in Kg Gita Lama, Petra Jaya, with her parents and four siblings. Her father, Darus, works as a daily wage construction worker, while her mother, Hazlinda, is a homemaker.
With three of her siblings still in school, the family faces the daunting task of meeting their daily expenses, including the considerable costs associated with Rabiatul’s medical needs.
“With the rising cost of food, education for our children, and our little girl’s medical bills, our income is never enough,” said Darus.
Rabiatul’s condition poses particular challenges; she is not only bedridden but also deaf and mute. Her feeding tube is directly connected to her stomach, and she experiences frequent seizures.
Perhaps the most heart-wrenching aspect is that Rabiatul does not respond to her mother’s hugs or smiles, adding to the family’s emotional burden.
Last year, Rabiatul bravely battled a severe lung infection that nearly claimed her life. During that harrowing period, she also suffered from relentless diarrhea, leading to a week-long admission to Sarawak General Hospital’s intensive care unit.
Despite these hardships, the family is grateful for the monthly aid of RM300 from social welfare and occasional assistance from Baitulmal.
To supplement the family’s income, Hazlinda has taken on babysitting jobs, while Rabiatul’s grandmother contributes by providing diapers for the children.
Hope Place extends its support by providing Rabiatul with special milk supplements, which she requires every three hours daily.
