KUCHING: Recent financial figures reveal Sarawak’s strong economic performance, countering a 2019 claim by former finance minister Lim Guan Eng.

In 2019, Lim stated that Sarawak could face bankruptcy within three years under the leadership of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian refuted this claim, pointing to Sarawak’s impressive revenue, which reached nearly RM12 billion in 2022.

Forecasts indicate even better results for this year.

Dr Sim posed a question at the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth Central Solidarity Camp 2023 dinner at Borneo Happy Farm here on Saturday, “Considering our strong revenue, do you believe we’re headed for bankruptcy? Perhaps the financial concerns lie in Malaya.”
