SIBU: People have been told to show their love and respect for  the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, as they embark on their much-anticipated visit to Sibu.

Chieng speaks to reporters

Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng called on the public to join in the excitement by lining up along the designated routes to welcome their Majesties.

“I would like to urge everybody to welcome our Agong and his entourage. Remember to show your utmost respect for our Agong.

“Bring your Sarawak flag and Malaysian flag to greet them,” he said here on Sept 10.

Temenggong Stanley Gramong Bandar, meanwhile, emphasised the historic significance of the occasion, calling it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the people of Sibu and Sarawak as a whole.

“Since Sept 7, we have been following the progress of this ‘Kembara Kenali Borneo’ in Sabah, and I am sure the people of Sarawak are also excited, especially the people in Sibu.

“Therefore, I hope our community in Sarawak will together enliven the areas His Majesty passes through and visits,” he said.

Emphasising the importance of cultural representation, Stanley encouraged the community to don their traditional costumes as a means of expressing joy and showcasing the region’s rich culture during the royal couple’s visit.

The route planned for their Majesties and their entourage will take them from Yu Lung San Tian En Temple to RH Hotel on Sept 11 at 5pm, passing through significant locations such as Jalan Oya, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kampung Nangka, SMK Tung Hua, and SMK Methodist, before proceeding to Jalan Sanyan.

In the evening, from RH Hotel to MUC Hall at approximately 8pm, the entourage will traverse Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg and Jalan Bandong.

On the following day, their Majesties are scheduled to visit Sibu Sentral Market for breakfast at 8am, commencing from RH Hotel and following Jalan Bujang Suntong, Jalan Pulau, and Jalan Channel.

After breakfast, their Majesties and their entourage will continue their journey to Sri Aman and Kuching, with their route taking them past Kolej Vokasional Sibu and SMK Rosli Dhobi around 9.30am.
