KUCHING: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has given his assurance that he will raise the concerns and requirements of Sarawakian to the federal government.
While cruising along the Pan Borneo Highway in Sarawak as part of the ‘Kembara Kenali Borneo’ expedition, the King said he received petition letters from the public.
“I received a few letters, (there are) not complaints but just asking for the goodwill of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“Trust me, I will read all the papers or petition letters sent to me. We will study it and we will bring it to the attention of the federal government as soon as possible.
“I will work on that, God willing,” he said during the closing ceremony of the expedition and state banquet held at Pullman Hotel here last night (Sept 12).
Al-Sultan Abdullah also noted that during the expedition, he noticed that the people in the interior still lacked basic necessities.
“Of the many places that I have visited, I hear related concerns, the same is the case with the state of Pahang. But this is a shared responsibility, the state and federal governments should play a more effective role.
“I also understand that Sarawak is the largest state. Of course, it requires a large allocation for roads, houses, bridges and many more.
“Here I would like to appeal to all Yang Berhormats (elected representatives), to go and engage with the people. Go and meet the people. Go and listen to the people on what they need,” he said.
Al-Sultan Abdullah added there were two locations in the state that also required urgent water supply.
“If I am not mistaken, among them, it is in Kampung Telagus located along the highway.
“I hope the elected representatives in the affected area will look into this matter,” he said.
Among those present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Acting Head of State Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Senate President Tan Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
Meanwhile, the 11-day Kembara Kenali Borneo expedition which started on Sept 3 in Tawau, Sabah will conclude in Telok Melano today.
The expedition covers a total distance of 2,154 km along the Pan Borneo Highway, connecting Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei.
