KUCHING: A local woman was fined RM3,500 in default of four months imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here, for operating an entertainment centre without a license.

Kong Sze Siew, 28, employed as a caretaker of the premises pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali to a charge framed under Section 5 (1) of the Entertainment Ordinance 2000.

If convicted, it carries a fine up to RM20,000 or imprisonment up to five years or both.

She is alleged to have committed the offence at a commercial centre in Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, here at around 12.10 am on Sept 9.

According to the facts of the case, a team from Kuching Criminal Investigation Division (CID) conducted a raid on the premises as it was believed to be operating without a license from the local authority.

During the raid, the caretaker of the premises was arrested for failing to produce a valid entertainment centre business license.

Examinations from Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) confirmed that the premises did not have an entertainment license to carry out the activity.
