KUALA LUMPUR: Coca-Cola Bottlers (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has successfully led a cleanup campaign in Malaysia.
Coca-Cola gathered more than 60 volunteers from their SiMAJU Kindness Crew to clean up two of Malaysia’s favourite beaches: Desaru Offshore Fishing in Kota Tinggi, Johor and Pantai Saujana in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.
This effort coincided with World Cleanup Day 2023. As a global beverage leader, Coca-Cola supported sustainability through the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) drive.
According to a statement from Coca-Cola, the team managed to remove more than 1,400 kg of trash, collecting close to 4,900 items like foam boxes, plastic cups, plates, and cigarette butts.
Coca-Cola emphasised their commitment to sustainability, stating: “We aim for a world free of waste. We’re dedicated to lessening plastic’s harm to our oceans.”
This year marked Coca-Cola’s fifth collaboration with Reef Check Malaysia. They’ve also teamed up with University Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Johor, Rembau Port Dickson Community College, and Pengerang Municipal Council to address pollution and make a real difference.
The company stated, “We prioritise recycling and ensure recyclables are managed correctly. Tackling the global issue of plastic waste requires teamwork – between businesses, governments, and communities. We’re committed to being part of the solution.”
