KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed the Unity Government to ensure that the issues raised by the people of Sabah and Sarawak are being addressed and solved.
He said he had directed all his Cabinet machinery to carefully examine the letters and petitions presented by the people of the two Borneo states to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah during his 11-day ‘Kembara Kenali Borneo’ expedition recently.
“Last Thursday, I had an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong and he spoke with full emotion, even with teary eyes, because he was deeply moved by the love shown by the people during the journey.
“The Agong has given me all the letters and petitions, and I assure you, God willing, I will instruct the entire Cabinet machinery to look into each of those letters,” he said.
He said this at the 2023 National-level Malaysia Day celebration held at the Stadium Perpaduan here in Petra Jaya this evening (Sept 16).
Anwar also pledged to do his utmost to resolve all the issues raised by the people in Sabah and Sarawak.
“While for complex issues, I will pass it to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor (to handle),” he said.
Following the celebration, Anwar, Abang Johari, and Hajiji Noor signed a special book in commemoration of Malaysia Day.
This year’s Malaysia Day celebration, themed ‘Malaysia MADANI: Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan,’ brought together more than 3,000 visitors from Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak, upholding the ‘Segulai Sejalai’ spirit, which means ‘Walk Together’ in the Iban language.
This spirit aligns with the Unity Government’s goal to strengthen harmony among the people of various races and religions in the country.
This year marks the second time the Malaysia Day celebration has been organised at the same location since 2019 and the seventh time held in Sarawak since its inception in 2010.
