SIBU: The Pelawan constituency’s recreational park will be upgraded in stages to cater to the community’s needs.

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government II, Michael Tiang Ming Tee, highlighted that each neighbourhood in the area has different needs. Some have a large number of elderly residents, while others have more children.

“Different community parks serve different purposes. Some are designed for children to play, while others are meant for adults and seniors to relax and enjoy,” Tiang told reporters during the Pelawan Mid-Autumn Festival event at Rejang Park Traffic Garden on Saturday night.

He stressed that before making changes, the ministry plans to run surveys and interact with local residents to understand their desires and requirements.

The Pelawan assemblyman hoped that these spaces will allow people to bond, interact, and even engage in activities like chess, just like old times, without the constant pull of electronic devices.

He also noted that several parks, including those on Lin Han Swee Road, Wawasan Road, and Cherry Road, have already seen improvements. Work is currently in progress at the parks on Sena Road and Melur Road.

“For these park upgrades, I’ve set aside RM1 million since last year,” Tiang added.
