KUCHING: Datuk Peter Minos has called for collaborative efforts to support disadvantaged and needy children.

The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman expressed his concern for children at organisations like the Salvation Army and autistic kid associations, highlighting their need for society’s moral support and assistance.

He urged everyone to cultivate kindness and empathy for those facing adversity, illness, and hardship, emphasising the importance of providing help wherever possible.

“Children at organisations like the Salvation Army and the Association of Autistic Kids, as well as other caring centres, need and want moral support and help.

“Help them when and where we can,” he said in a statement.

Recognising the vital role played by volunteers caring for the disadvantaged, Minos stressed that they require financial support to continue their work effectively.

He called upon the government to take responsibility for providing loving care to those less fortunate in society, emphasising the need to never abandon them.

“Our dedicated volunteers need the resources to continue their noble work, and it’s a collective responsibility,” he added.

Minos also highlighted an ongoing drawing exhibition at Merdeka Plaza, here, featuring artwork by children with autistic tendencies.

The Gifted Arts Gallery, organised by Kuching Association of Talents Development and Welfare of Special Needs (KATSN), showcases the talents of 13 special needs artists, with their works available for charity sale until September 30.

As such, he encouraged the public to visit the exhibition and purchase artwork to support these children facing unique challenges due to their natural inclinations.

“These young artists deserve our support, not just for their talent but for their resilience.

“Those children have come together with their loving and caring parents to establish an association, with moral support from the relevant ministry,” he said.

Meanwhile, he commended the Salvation Army for establishing its office and centre in Kota Samarahan, expressing MPKS’s satisfaction in extending assistance to the organisation.

He applauded the Salvation Army’s volunteers for their dedication to caring for impoverished and neglected children, recognising their laudable efforts.

“MPKS had extended its helping hand in some possible ways to the Salvation Army because this organisation, through its volunteers, shows care and love to very poor, uncared-for, and disadvantaged children.

“This is most laudable when we give salutations. Our conscience also dictates so,” he asserted.
