KUCHING: The Indonesian government plans to give awards to companies from Sarawak that hire workers from their country. Consul-General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching, Raden Sigit Witjaksono said with the awards, it is hoped that the companies concerned could pay more attention to the well-being and welfare of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI). “We plan to give awards in the near future to Sarawak companies that recruit and hire workers from our country.
“With the awards, the companies can be more concerned about the workers well-being while at the same time, the workers are expected to continue to increase productivity which contributes to the development of Sarawak,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the 78th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day at Waterfront Hotel here, Wednesday night. In view of this, Raden also thanked the Sarawak government for providing a sustainable and safe employment ecosystem.
“We are also grateful for the good cooperation from the companies and the government in providing the opportunity for PMI to work well in this state.
“Even this year, the Sarawak government has agreed to adopt the Workforce Recalibration Programme (RTK) to allow illegal foreign workers (PATI) to work here legally,” he said.
He added it was hoped that more PMIs and employers would join the programme by dealing directly through the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) and the Sarawak Department of Labour.
He said his side strongly supported the ecosystem that provided benefits to its people and the state government for mutual benefits.
“For that reason, we plan to hold a Job Fair and Job Business Meeting as well as Indonesia Trade Expo 2023 next October,” he explained. He also hoped that the development of Indonesia’s new capital in Kalimantan would continue to strengthen good relations between Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as provide development benefits to Sarawak.
