MARUDI: Sarawakians are called upon to unite in spirit to ensure the continuous progress and development of the state.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg made this call, likening Sarawakians to the spirit of paddlers participating in the 2023 Baram Regatta competition.
“It is just like boat races; when you row, you row in sync, or else, the boat will sink. This mirrors Sarawak’s culture, where we work harmoniously together in carrying out our duties.
“We are really united just like the paddlers in the boat. They (regatta participants) really paddle in rhythm.
“Similarly, we, Sarawakians, paddle in rhythm too, and we put ‘Sarawak First’. This is our rhythm. Therefore, this also becomes an encouragement for our leaders to focus on implementing development statewide,” he said.
He said this when officiating the 2023 Baram Regatta held at Marudi Square today (Sept 30).
Abang Johari then assured that his government will continue their efforts to ensure continuous growth of the state’s income.
“In 2022, the state’s income was nearly RM12 billion. I have worked hard, and our income has doubled.
“This means there is revenue for the state, and with this revenue, we give it back to the people through development programmes that are structured and benefit the people,” he said.
He added Sarawak could exceed its 2022 income record, citing ongoing efforts and a strategic plan that extends to 2030.
“We have our plans up to 2030, and God willing, we will break the record of 2022 in terms of income. So, we will work hard,” he said.
Abang Johari the state is exploring new avenues to increase its income, such as venturing into carbon trading and green energy.
“We are ahead of Putrajaya in terms of green energy, and it seems that Sarawak will be the hub of the Asean region for the supply of green energy.
“This is the blessing that we will receive when we are united. So, as we move towards 2030, Sarawak including Baram will continue to develop,” he said.
